Integration

N8N and integration

Systems that work together, processes that run through without manual steps and data you can trust. I build integrations with N8N and other iPaaS tools, with error handling and documentation.

Where integrations save work

  • A webshop order reaches your ERP without anyone typing it over.
  • A deal won in your CRM becomes a customer and an order in your ERP.
  • Stock and prices from your ERP are kept correct in your webshop or on a marketplace such as bol.com.
  • Shipping status and track-and-trace from your carrier or logistics partner flow back into your ERP.
  • A customer who suddenly orders less triggers a signal in your CRM or a draft email for the account manager.
  • AI gets access to current data from your systems, within the permissions you agree on. Read more about AI for SMEs.

Why N8N

N8N is a visual workflow tool from Europe (Berlin) that you can host yourself or use as a cloud service. You see every step of an integration, can trace errors step by step and aren’t tied to one ERP.

For simple integrations, Make or a ready-made connector is sometimes the better choice. I choose per situation, and I don’t build anything custom when the package can already do it.

On the ERP side I work with NetSuite (SuiteScript and SuiteQL), Exact Online and Odoo, among others. I connect other packages too, as long as they have an API or an export.

How I build integrations

An integration you can still manage in 2 years

Process and data first

Which system is the source for which data, and who may change what? Without that answer, an integration only produces errors faster.

Error handling

What happens when an integration fails, who gets the alert and how is a failed step retried? The normal route almost always works. The exceptions decide whether the integration keeps working.

Documentation

A functional design before the build and a description for the administrator afterwards, so the knowledge doesn’t sit in one person’s head.

Ownership

You remain the owner of the accounts and the workflows. If you later want to continue yourself or with another partner, you can.

Example: Peppol e-invoicing

As a proof of concept I built a Peppol integration via Storecove in N8N. It shows how e-invoicing through Peppol can be connected to an ERP.

Let’s look at what this means for your situation

A first conversation is free of obligation. You’ll get an honest answer, even when that answer is a different tool.
