Odoo for SMEs
For many SMEs, Odoo Online is a complete ERP with a low entry threshold. I help you choose, implement and move over from Exact or another package, with the standard product as the starting point.
When Odoo fits
Odoo fits SMEs with one or a few entities that want accounting, sales, purchasing, stock, projects and timesheets in one package. You pay per user, start small and expand as the business grows.
If you’re growing into several countries, complex stock or a heavy webshop, NetSuite may fit better. I compare both against your processes. I’ll tell you which package I would choose, and why.
What I do
From choice to daily use
Selection and comparison
First we map your processes, then we put Odoo, NetSuite, Exact Online or another package side by side. You get well-founded advice with a realistic estimate of investment and lead time.
Implementation on the standard product
Business analysis, functional design, configuration, testing and go-live. I first record what will be set up, and I only build once you’ve approved it.
Belgian accounting
Chart of accounts, VAT grids and returns, and e-invoicing set up correctly, so your accountant doesn’t have to fix things afterwards.
Migration from your current package
Moving from Exact Globe, Exact Synergy or Exact Online, which I know inside out, or from another accounting or ERP package. What can come along: general ledger, open items, invoices with their PDFs, bank statements, projects and timesheets. For every financial year I check that the balances in Odoo match those in Exact, and for every VAT period that the VAT returns match.
Integrations and automation
Connecting Odoo to your webshop, bank or other packages through N8N and the Odoo APIs. Read more about integration.
Support after go-live
Training your team, doing the first month-end close together and reviewing what isn’t being used yet.
Moving to Odoo
In a migration you first decide which history moves along. Often the open items and the balances per financial year are enough, together with the documents you need to be able to find.
If your data comes from a package other than Exact, I start with an analysis of that system: which exports and tables exist, how customers, items and entries are structured and which history you can reliably get out of it. That analysis decides what moves along.
Then comes a trial migration, a check of the balances per general ledger account and of the VAT returns, and a go-live at a logical moment, for example after a VAT period or at year-end. I moved VM-Labs’ own accounting from Exact Online to Odoo, so I know what comes up in practice.
Standard first
Odoo lets you customise a lot, and every customisation costs time again at each upgrade. On Odoo Online you can’t load your own modules, which keeps you on the standard product.
I first check whether your process can adapt to the standard. The result is a faster go-live, lower total cost and less technical debt.
Sound familiar?
- You run Exact Globe or Synergy and wonder whether Odoo is a logical next step.
- Accounting, CRM and projects sit in three different packages and nobody has the full picture.
- You want to switch, but your accountant is worried about the history.
- You run an older package that no longer keeps up and you’re looking for a successor.
- You have Odoo and only use part of it.
Let’s look at what this means for your situation
A first conversation is free of obligation. You’ll get an honest answer, even when that answer is a different package.
